Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Pre-Orders Break Records, Production Gets 1 Million Unit Boost

Samsung is reportedly increasing Galaxy Z Fold 8 production by another 1 million units after record pre-orders in South Korea, with the new wide-fold design emerging as a major reason behind the strong demand.

Samsung appears to have a big hit on its hands with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. The company’s latest book-style foldable has reportedly received much stronger demand than expected. This has now prompted Samsung to increase production of the smartphone by another 1 million units.

According to a report by Korean publication ETNews, Samsung has placed additional component orders with its suppliers. The move could push the annual production target of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 beyond 3 million units. The decision comes after an unusually strong pre-order response in South Korea and other markets.

The redesigned form factor seems to be one of the biggest reasons behind the interest. Unlike previous Galaxy Z Fold models, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 moves towards a wider display experience. Samsung is hoping that the change will bring more customers to its foldable lineup.

Samsung Increases Galaxy Z Fold 8 Production

Samsung reportedly started with a production target of around 2.8 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The company has now decided to add another 1 million units to the target as demand continues to exceed expectations. If the reported numbers are accurate, Galaxy Z Fold 8 production could cross the 3-million-unit mark for the year. That would make it one of Samsung’s most heavily produced foldable models.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is reportedly expected to have an initial production target of around 2 million units. Meanwhile, Samsung is said to have planned around 1.5 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The production increase is significant because Samsung’s foldable phones have not always met the company’s initial production targets. The company also increased production of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last year after demand exceeded its expectations.

This year’s situation looks even more interesting because the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to be attracting most of the attention within the new lineup.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Pre-Orders Break Records

Samsung’s new foldables have reportedly enjoyed a strong response in South Korea. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 together received around 1.44 million pre-orders between July 28 and August 4. That is reportedly the highest pre-order figure ever recorded for a Samsung smartphone lineup in the country.

The number is around 38.5 percent higher than the pre-orders registered by the previous Galaxy Z7 series. It has also reportedly surpassed the Galaxy S26 series, which had recorded around 1.36 million pre-orders so far this year. Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is believed to account for nearly 70 percent of the total 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea.

The trend is not limited to Samsung’s home market either. According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 accounts for nearly 59 percent of pre-orders for the latest Galaxy Z foldable lineup internationally. It has also reportedly received around 30 percent more pre-orders than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Wide-Fold Design Could Be The Biggest Reason

The biggest change on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is its form factor. Samsung has moved away from the relatively narrow design that has defined the previous Galaxy Z Fold models. The new Fold 8 is designed around a wider unfolded display. It reportedly features a 7.6-inch foldable OLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, along with a 5.5-inch cover display with a 10:16 aspect ratio.

The wider internal screen could make the device more comfortable for everyday tasks. Reading should benefit from the extra width. Gaming and video viewing could also feel more natural. Multitasking is another area where the new aspect ratio could make a difference. Users can run two apps side by side without making either window feel excessively narrow.

The cover screen is also designed to provide a more conventional smartphone experience. Its wider proportions could make activities such as watching vertical videos and typing more comfortable. Samsung reportedly expects the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 to account for more than 60 percent of sales volume across the new Galaxy Z series. That would be a major shift in importance for the standard Fold model.

Samsung Wants To Stay Ahead Of Foldable Competition

The production boost comes at an important time for Samsung. Competition in the foldable smartphone market is expected to become more intense this year. Apple is reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone for September. Rumours suggest that Apple’s foldable could also feature a display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Samsung therefore has an important window to establish its wider-folding design before Apple enters the category. Strong early demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could give the company additional momentum.

The new design appears to be receiving positive feedback. However, an industry expert cited in the report suggested that Samsung’s Double Storage promotion could also be contributing to the higher pre-order numbers. Rising memory chip prices may have made such promotions particularly attractive to buyers. Still, the response to the redesigned Fold 8 appears to be genuine. The production increase itself suggests Samsung is preparing for demand that is significantly higher than its original expectations.

Conclusion

Samsung’s decision to add another 1 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units to its production target shows how strongly the new foldable is performing. The reported pre-order numbers are particularly encouraging for a category that has traditionally struggled to reach mainstream smartphone volumes.

The wider-fold design appears to be playing a key role. Samsung has changed an aspect of the Galaxy Z Fold experience that has remained largely consistent for years.

With Apple reportedly preparing its first foldable iPhone, Samsung’s early momentum could become even more important. If the strong pre-order trend continues after launch, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could become one of Samsung’s most successful foldable phones yet.
