Apple has officially launched its first foldable iPhone at the ‘Surprise and Shine’ event. Called the iPhone Duo, the new device brings Apple’s foldable design to its premium smartphone lineup. It follows a passport-like folding design and comes with two displays.
The iPhone Duo is powered by the same A20 Pro chipset used in the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple has also focused on multitasking, cameras and battery life with its first foldable. The phone will be available in two colour options and supports MagSafe wireless charging.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR foldable display on the inside. Apple says it is 80 percent larger than the 6.3-inch display on the iPhone 18 Pro.
The inner screen uses a custom Nano Texture finish. It is designed to reduce reflections and make the crease less noticeable. The display is made using a custom polymer with high-strength glass on top.
When folded, users can access a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR cover display. The outer screen and rear panel get Ceramic Shield protection.
iOS 27 Gets Foldable-Specific Features
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which has been customised for the foldable form factor. Apple has added features aimed at making better use of the larger inner screen. Users can use split view for multitasking. They can also pair apps and switch between them with a swipe. The phone supports partial-folded use as well. Another useful addition is StandBy support. The iPhone Duo can enter StandBy mode even when it is not connected to a charger.
A20 Pro Chip Powers The iPhone Duo

At the heart of the iPhone Duo is Apple’s A20 Pro chipset. It is built on TSMC’s 2nm process. The chip features a six-core CPU. Two new Super Cores are claimed to deliver 20 percent faster performance, while four efficiency cores handle less demanding workloads.
The chipset also includes a seven-core GPU. Apple claims up to 40 percent faster graphics performance and increased bandwidth. New Neural Accelerators offer 2x faster FP8 performance.
The A20 Pro also uses a dual Neural Engine setup with 32 cores. Apple claims the chip delivers 50 percent higher memory bandwidth. It is said to be 40 percent more powerful than the A19 Pro and twice as powerful as the A18 Pro. The phone also features Apple’s C2 modem. It is claimed to deliver 50 percent better performance compared with the C1x modem.
Dual 48MP Rear Cameras
The iPhone Duo gets a dual rear camera setup. The main camera is a 48-megapixel Fusion sensor. It is paired with a 12-megapixel telephoto camera supporting 2x optical zoom. The phone can record videos at up to 4K resolution at 120fps. There is also a Centre Stage camera on the front.
Apple has placed an additional under-display FaceTime camera on the foldable inner screen. This gives users camera functionality on both displays.
Battery Life and MagSafe Charging
Apple claims the iPhone Duo offers all-day battery life. It can provide up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display. With the outer display, the figure increases to 44 hours. Combined display usage is rated at up to 22 hours.
Fast charging is also supported. Apple says just 5 minutes of charging can provide up to 5 hours of video playback. The foldable also supports MagSafe wireless charging, giving users access to Apple’s magnetic charging ecosystem.
eSIM-Only Design
The iPhone Duo ships with eSIM support only. Apple has removed the physical SIM slot to create additional internal space for the battery. This means buyers will need to use an eSIM-compatible carrier to activate cellular connectivity on the device.
iPhone Duo Price in India and Availability
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, which is roughly Rs. 1.90 lakh, for the 256GB model. In India, the base 256GB variant costs Rs. 2,99,900. The 512GB model is priced at Rs. 3,24,900. The 1TB variant costs Rs. 3,74,900, while the top-end 2TB model is priced at Rs. 4,49,900.

The A20 Pro chip, dual 48MP cameras, long video playback claims and MagSafe support make it a powerful package. The foldable-focused iOS 27 features also give the device a different approach to multitasking.
However, the starting price of Rs. 2,99,900 puts the iPhone Duo firmly in the ultra-premium segment. With storage going up to 2TB, Apple is clearly targeting users who want its most advanced and flexible iPhone experience.
