One of the biggest announcements from the event was the launch of Gemini 3.5 Flash. The new AI model is now available globally inside the Google Gemini app and AI Mode in Search.

Google claims the model is significantly faster than competing frontier AI models while also being more cost-efficient. According to the company, Gemini 3.5 Flash was even capable of generating an operating system within 12 hours.

The model is also available for developers through:

  • Gemini API
  • AI Studio
  • Android Studio
  • Antigravity platform

Google also confirmed that Gemini 3.5 Pro will launch next month.

Gemini Omni Brings Advanced AI Video Generation

Gemini Omni doesn't just build scenes that look real, it reasons about what should happen next. It combines an intuitive understanding of physics with Gemini's knowledge of history, science, and cultural context.

Gemini Spark Becomes Google’s Personal AI Agent

Gemini Spark is your personal AI agent in the @GeminiApp that gets things done on your behalf, under your direction. It runs 24/7 (and yes – you can close your laptop). Another major launch was Gemini Spark, which Google is positioning as a personal AI agent capable of handling long-running tasks independently.

Unlike traditional assistants, Gemini Spark can continue performing actions in the background without requiring users to keep devices active. Google says the system runs on dedicated virtual machines powered by Google Cloud.

The company also plans to integrate Gemini Spark across multiple Google products in the future.

Google Workspace Gets Smarter AI Features

Search received one of the biggest overhauls at the event.

Google introduced a new AI Search box that expands its AI Mode experience. The feature creates a conversational search environment where users can interact more naturally with Search.

The updated Search now supports:

  • Multimodal queries
  • Text inputs
  • Voice inputs
  • Image-based searches
  • AI-generated search suggestions

Google also confirmed that Search will support multiple AI agents operating simultaneously.

Agentic Booking And Coding Features

Gemini Spark is your 24/7 personal agent that makes @GeminiApp an even more helpful AI assistant.

It’s integrated with other Google tools, like @Gmail and @GoogleDocs, and it’s able to keep working in the background, even when you close your laptop.

Google Search is also becoming more action-oriented with agentic capabilities.

For example, users can ask Search to:

  • Find karaoke rooms
  • Compare prices
  • Check availability
  • Access direct booking links

Google also demonstrated agentic coding functionality during the keynote.

These features are expected to roll out in the US later this summer.

Google also announced Universal Cart, powered by its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP).

This system allows users to shop seamlessly across different Google platforms including:

  • Google Search
  • Gemini app
  • YouTube
  • Gmail

The company says the tool works across merchants and services, making shopping more connected across Google’s ecosystem.

Google revealed a new Android Halo indicator that will launch with Android 17 later this year.

The feature displays ongoing AI agent activity directly beside the time in the top-left corner of the screen.

The indicator is designed to show users when AI tools are actively working in the background.

Ask YouTube Upgrade Announced

We’re having much more natural conversations with Gemini directly inside many of our products, so we’re bringing this to two more:

YouTube also received a major AI upgrade with the introduction of Ask YouTube.

The feature allows users to ask complex questions while searching videos.

For example:

  • Finding exact scenes in videos
  • Searching using vague descriptions
  • Discovering the most relevant clips
  • Accessing information from Shorts and long videos

Ask YouTube is currently rolling out to YouTube Premium users in the US aged 18 and above.

Lastly, Google showcased its upcoming Android XR smart glasses platform.

The company confirmed two categories of smart wearables:

  • Audio smart glasses
  • Smart glasses with built-in displays

Currently, Samsung’s AR/VR headset is the only hardware running Android XR, but Google is clearly expanding its ambitions in the wearable AI space.

AI Clearly Dominated Google I/O 2026

This year’s Google I/O made one thing very clear. Google is rapidly transforming every major product into an AI-powered experience.

From Gemini-powered agents and AI Search to Workspace upgrades and XR wearables, the company is pushing toward a future where AI is deeply integrated into everyday computing.

The scale of Google’s AI infrastructure growth also shows how competitive the AI race has become. Processing 3.2 quadrillion tokens monthly is a huge jump, and the company is clearly investing heavily to stay ahead.

Conclusion

Google I/O 2026 was one of the company’s most AI-focused events ever. Nearly every announcement revolved around Gemini, AI agents, multimodal experiences, and automation.

Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini Omni, and Gemini Spark stood out as the biggest highlights, while upgrades to Search, Gmail, and YouTube showed how deeply AI is being embedded into Google’s ecosystem.

As these tools roll out globally over the coming months, users will likely see a major shift in how they interact with Google products across devices and platforms.
