Microsoft has confirmed that it will be closing down Skype on May 5, 2025. The platform has existed for nearly 20 years, allowing users to make voice and video calls via the Internet. Because Teams provides superior features and is already integrated into other Microsoft applications, the company chose to concentrate on it instead.

Microsoft has stopped selling new subscriptions and credits. People who already have subscriptions can continue using them until their next renewal period. After May 5, 2025, paid users will still be able to make calls using the Skype Dial Pad from the Skype web portal or inside Teams.

Switching to Teams is simple. Users just need to download the Teams app on their device and log in with their Skype credentials. All their messages and contacts will be available immediately. If someone does not want to use Teams, they can export their chats, contacts, and call history before May 5.
