Android users always believe that their devices are more innovative and have extra features than Apple. Some iPhone users also agree with it. However, with its recent WWDC24 event on Monday, Apple revealed several new updates and features. Here are some features that one might believe Apple copied from Android.

App Icon Placement And Theme Changes

Apple is now bringing huge app customization features on iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. You will be able to change the color and theme of an app icon. However, this feature has been present in Android devices like Samsung and Material You for several years. Material You came up with different icon themes on Android 12 and Samsung has had the feature of Color Palette for years. Additionally, iOS is also bringing a new dark mode feature which you can apply to the app icons. Not only this, Apple confirmed in WWDC24 that users are finally getting the feature of changing the placement of App icons which Android always had.

Game Mode Changes

Apple is coming up with new features for Game Mode in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. This mode will reduce background activity which will enhance the frame rates. Additionally, there will also be a latency improvement between gaming controllers and AirPods. Meanwhile, Android phones and other devices already have had game mode features for several years. Several devices automatically adjust the game settings. This has also resulted in an entirely new category of gaming devices.

Control Centre Update

Apple’s Control Centre was always quite rigid and didn’t allow users to personalize it, but that’s changing now. It will also have an interesting interface that enables changing the layout and adding and removing various options. Meanwhile, Android already did something similar a long time ago. Android 11 came up with device and media controls in 2020 itself. Therefore, Android is far ahead of Apple in this category.

Emoji Tapback

Now, you can make your own emojis with Apple Intelligence

Emojis are no doubt one of our favorite features on any device. We already had the feature of Emoji Tapback on Android. However, Apple has recently come up with a concept called Gemoji in WWDC24. Before this, Apple devices had the feature of sticker reactions. Nevertheless, several apps like Messenger and others already have had this feature for several years.

App Lock

Several Android devices have been offering the app lock feature for many years now. Now Apple has come up with the same feature. It will now allow its users to lock separate apps with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. Apple will also allow its users to hide apps. However, Samsung, Xiaomi, and many other Android devices already have had this feature for several years.

Categorizing Emails

Apple is integrating some much needed feature of Categorizing Emails similar to Gmail#Apple #WWDC24 #iPhone #iOS18 pic.twitter.com/ecKQ80GXES

— Techotales (@techotales) June 13, 2024

Apple is also bringing an updated Mail app for its devices. With this latest development, Apple Mail can now categorize emails and filter out promotional emails. However, this feature is quite similar to Google’s Gmail app which offers multiple categories. The new feature on Apple devices will be very helpful since many Apple users rely on the built-in app rather than using Outlook or Gmail.

Calculator

— Techotales (@techotales) June 11, 2024

To everyone’s surprise, after 14 years Apple is launching a calculator app for its devices but as they say, it’s better late than never. However, talking about an Android device, even a basic one comes with a calculator app. Nevertheless, Apple is a step ahead with its MathNotes feature which will help you solve equations and other math problems.

RCS And Message Scheduling

Android devices already have RCS support for quite some time now. Additionally, Google and several other chatting apps already have the feature of scheduling a message. However, Apple is now coming up with RCS support and message scheduling features on its devices. For the messages app on Android, this feature came back in 2021. It also categorizes messages based on their type.

Call Recording And Transcription

Finally, Call Recording on iPhone with Summarisation!

One of the announcements at WWDC 2024 is that Apple will now have the feature to record and transcribe phone calls. When you start recording, it will notify the person on the other end that the call is being recorded. However, Android users have had this feature for a long time now. The one additional benefit of Apple is that iOS will also give you a summary of the recording in a few bullet points.

Pairing Device

— Techotales (@techotales) June 10, 2024

Inspired by Google’s Fast Pair feature, Apple is coming up with a similar one-touch feature for pairing devices. Several supported accessories like headphones, earbuds, and various other devices, can now be paired. Additionally, just like in Android phones, the devices will pop up, which will make it easier to pair your device to other compatible devices.

Conclusion

These are the several features Apple finally unveiled in WWDC24 that are copied from Android devices. Which new Apple feature excites you the most? Let us know in the comments below.
