WhatsApp just launched its own Apple Watch app. This is big news if you have been stuck with those basic notifications for years. Now you can read full messages, send voice notes, react with emojis, and see who is calling you all from your wrist. No more grabbing your phone every time WhatsApp buzzes. Let’s check out what features the Apple Watch app has in 2025.
Which Apple Watches Work With WhatsApp?

- You need an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer. That’s any model from September 2018 onwards. Older watches won’t cut it.
- Your watch also needs watchOS 10 or later. On the iPhone, you need iOS 19.1 or the latest WhatsApp version installed.
- Keep Bluetooth on and your devices close together. They need to communicate with each other for everything to sync properly.
- Got a cellular Apple Watch? You are in luck. You can leave your iPhone behind during runs or workouts and still get your WhatsApp messages.
Installing WhatsApp On An Apple Watch

If you have automatic downloads turned on, WhatsApp will show up on your watch by itself. Otherwise, pick one of these two ways.
Install From Your Apple Watch
Press the digital crown to see your apps. Tap the App Store icon. Search for WhatsApp. Hit install. Done.
Install From Your iPhone
Open the Watch app on your iPhone. Go to the My Watch tab. Scroll until you see WhatsApp in the list. Tap install next to it.
That’s it. The app downloads to your watch in a couple of minutes.
What Can You Do With WhatsApp On An Apple Watch?

The app does way more than those old notifications ever did.
- You can read the entire message, not just previews. Scroll through long conversations right on your wrist.
- React with emojis instantly. Just tap the reaction you want.
- Send replies three ways. Speak them, write them with your finger, or pick from quick replies.
- Record voice messages using your watch’s microphone. Super handy when you are busy.
- See who is calling on WhatsApp. You can decline calls without touching your phone. You can’t answer on the watch, but at least you know who is trying to reach you.
- Look at the photos and stickers people send you.
- Check your chat history. You get way more context than before.
- Everything stays encrypted. Your security doesn’t change.
- Meta says more features are coming in future updates.
Setting Up Notifications
Getting a notification right makes a huge difference. Here is what to do.
On Your iPhone
- Turn on Bluetooth, and make sure your watch is connected and nearby.
- Open settings and find WhatsApp. Tap Notifications and switch on “Allow notifications.”
- Turn on everything: lock screen, notification center, banners, all of it.
On The Watch App
Open the Watch app on your iPhone. Go to notifications. Scroll to Mirror iPhone Alerts From, toggle WhatsApp on. This keeps you alerted in sync between your phone and watch.
Replying To Messages
- When a message comes in, tap reply.
- From suggestions for quick answers
- Use Scribble to write with your finger
- Hit the microphone to dictate your reply
- Tap Dismiss to mark as read and clear your screen
Numbers Behind WhatsApp On Apple Watch

WhatsApp has over 2 billion users worldwide. Apple Watch ownership passed 100 million units in 2024. Now, that’s a massive potential audience for this app.
About 75% of active Apple Watches are Series 4 or newer. That means roughly 75 million people can use this app right now without buying new hardware.
People check their Apple Watch 60 to 80 times a day on average. Notifications drive most of those checks. Having full WhatsApp access instead of just notifications could bump those numbers even higher.
Around 30% of Apple Watch sales since 2020 were cellular models. Millions of people can now stay connected to WhatsApp during a workout without carrying their phones.
