Samsung just announced Digital Car Key support in India for the Samsung Wallet. The feature works with select Mahindra electric SUVs, letting Galaxy smartphone owners unlock and start their vehicles without a physical key. The announcement happened at the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Mahindra: The First Indian Car Maker To Integrate Samsung Digital Car Key

Mahindra is the first Indian automobile manufacturer to integrate Samsung’s Digital Car Key functionality. Brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Hyundai already offer Samsung Wallet’s Digital Car Key support, but only for select models and markets.
Things To Know About Digital Car Key

The feature needs Ultra-Wideband (UWB) hardware and NFC connectivity. Compatible phones include:
- Galaxy S25 Series
- Galaxy S24 Series
- Galaxy S23 Series
- Galaxy Z Fold 7
- Galaxy Z Flip 7
- Galaxy Z Fold 6
- Galaxy Z Flip 6
Galaxy S series and Z series handsets launched after 2020 with UWB support generally work with keyless entry and ignition.
Supported Car Models
Samsung Wallet Digital Car Key works with the Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6 electric SUVs. Galaxy smartphone users can lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using just their phones.
Digital Car Keys Are Shareable
Users can share Digital Car Key access with friends or family for a limited time. You can restrict and cancel access at any time. The primary device receives alerts whenever the vehicle is started.
Safety Features
If a device with a Digital Car Key gets lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the device and erase all data, including the key, using the Samsung Find service. The feature requires biometric or PIN authentication, so only authorized users can access the vehicle.
Works When The Battery Dies
The Digital Car Key still works even when the phone is powered off. Samsung says the latest Galaxy devices retain enough reserve battery to support NFC-based features, including unlocking a car. This means you won’t get stuck in a low-battery situation.
Samsung Vs Google Wallet

Samsung Wallet support for Mahindra fits into Samsung’s strategy to compete with Google Wallet in the Digital Car Key space. Google Wallet already supports digital keys for brands like Tesla, Volvo, and Polestar, but these features are limited to certain countries.
Samsung is expanding its list of supported automakers. With Mahindra now onboard, the company has strengthened its presence in India’s automobile landscape.
What Is The Samsung Wallet?

Samsung introduced the Wallet app in June 2022. Besides Digital Car Keys, the platform lets users securely store payment cards, IDs, and other documents on their smartphones.
Competition In India’s Digital Key Market

This partnership between Samsung and Mahindra shows smartphone makers and car companies are working together. As more Indian consumers buy electric vehicles, features like Digital Car Keys will become common. Traditional metal keys are being replaced by wireless solutions that offer better convenience and security.
These technologies are not perfect yet. You still need specific phone models with the right hardware. Not all Mahindra models support it either—just the XEV 9e and BE 6 for now. But it’s a start, and other Indian carmakers will likely follow.
